Amaretti Virginia Crunchy Amaretti

Description

Crunchy amaretti are small almond-flavoured biscuits with a crisp, crunchy texture. They are famous across Italy and beyond for their bittersweet almond flavour and wonderful aroma. These traditional Italian treats are made by celebrated Italian confectioners, Amaretti Virginia, using age-old recipes and techniques. Presented in a decorative tin, they are a great gift for Italian food lovers or a sweet treat to keep all to yourself!

In Italy, amaretti biscuits are enjoyed as a sweet treat during the day or served with coffee and sweet wine after dinner. You can also crush the biscuits to sprinkle over ice cream or to make a crunchy topping for crumbles and mousses. They make an excellent base for cheesecakes flavoured with fruit, chocolate or Italian liqueurs.

Dating back to the 1700s, amaretti biscuits were first invented in Saronno, a city north of Milan in the region of Lombardy. Made with almonds, sugar, apricot kernels and eggs, they are famous for their intense almond flavour and aroma. There are two main types: amaretti morbidi, which are soft and chewy, and amaretti croccanti, which are crisp and crunchy.
