Guangdong rice wine is a type of cooking wine produced in southern China. It’s made with glutinous rice that is steamed and fermented with a starter culture. It has a sweeter flavour than other cooking wines, such as shaoxing.

Guangdong rice wine has a distinctive aroma and balanced taste. Sweet and slightly sour, it’s a great way to add depth to sauces and marinades. It complements the light, fresh flavours of stir fries and steamed seafood dishes.

In Hakka cuisine, Guangdong rice wine is used to flavour braised meat dishes. It’s an essential ingredient in a dish known as yellow wine chicken. It’s made by simmering chicken in rice wine with fresh ginger and sesame oil. Rich and aromatic, it’s a very comforting dish.
