Use these whole organic fava beans from Hodmedod’s to make the delicious Egyptian breakfast dish, ful medames. The whole beans have their outer shells, which you can either remove after cooking or leave for a nuttier flavour and added texture. These beans are perfect for homemade baked beans, salads, stews and curries.
How to cook whole dried fava beans
Soak overnight, drain and rinse. Place in a pan with plenty of water, bring to boil, cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes until tender. Refreshing the water during cooking will remove some of the natural tannins from the bean skins and give a more subtle flavour.
