Description

Basmati rice is a long-grain rice variety that originated in India. Today, it’s used in all kinds of dishes from Asia and further afield. The long, slender grains have a subtle popcorn-like aroma.

Boiled or steamed basmati rice is a great side dish for curries and stir fries. You can use it to make biryani and spiced pilafs. The rice will absorb the flavour of stocks and seasonings as it cooks.

Once cooked, basmati rice is light and fluffy with well separated grains. Serve it with steamed fish or a spicy vegetable curry. Add leftover rice to Asian soups or use it to make fried rice.

For best results, wash the rice thoroughly before cooking to remove the starch.
