Sabarot Forbidden Black Rice, 400g

Description

Forbidden black rice has a nutty flavour, similar to brown rice. It’s famous for its eye-catching colour and various health benefits. You can use it to make salads, side dishes and even desserts.

Why is black rice called ‘forbidden’ rice? It was originally reserved for the Chinese Emperor - no one else was allowed to eat it. The rice could only be eaten inside the Forbidden City, an imperial palace in Beijing. Lucky for us, it’s now on the menu for anyone who fancies it!

Packed with fibre and antioxidants, black rice is a great alternative to white rice. Use it to make a rice salad studded with prawns and juicy mango. It also pairs well with eggs and crispy tofu.

You can serve black rice as a side dish for curries and stir fries. It’s delicious with Thai red curry or Caribbean sweet potato curry.

Preparation: Pour 120g of rice into 500ml of boiling water. Cook for 35 minutes over medium heat. Then cover and cook for another 5 minutes. Drain and serve.

Store in a cool, dry place.
