Description

Cargamanto beans are reddish-brown beans that originated in Colombia. They are the main ingredient in bandeja paisa, which is the country’s national dish. Presented on a platter, the meal consists of beans, rice, ground beef, chorizo, arepas and avocado. There are also fried elements such as plantain and chicharrón (pork rinds).

Red cargamanto beans have a firm texture and mild, sweet flavour. You can add them to soups, stews and casseroles. The beans are a great addition to rice dishes and salads. Use them in place of pinto beans to make Mexican refried beans.
