Terre Exotique White Sarawak Pepper IGP, 80g

Description

Terre Exotique’s white Sarawak pepper has prominent woody aromas, with fresh, fruit notes - excellent paired with grilled meat, fresh berries and Malaysian chicken curries. Sarawak pepper has PGI status (Protected Geographical Indication) - the berries grow in the rainforests of North Borneo alongside the famous Borneo orangutans. This white pepper is harvested by hand from April through to September, then dried in the sun for the flavours to mature.

Unlike other white peppers, Sarawak is light, and not as potent. Once harvested, these peppercorns are placed in cages in the river. The continuous flow of water washes away the peel of the pepper, and while the musky aroma stays, the finished flavour is much lighter.

This pot of Sarawak pepper contains whole peppercorns. Add a spoonful straight into cooking, or ground in a peppermill for a finishing seasoning.

About Terre Exotique

Terre Exotique works directly with hundreds of specialist farmers and producers around the world – to bring the very best peppers, spices and salts to our tables. The company was founded by Erwann de Kerros, a Breton and seasoned traveller. After tasting pepper in the Penja plantation in Cameroon, Kerros yearned to try other specialist peppers and spices – and Terre Exotique was born.

The company works closely with farmers to preserve natural habitats, and to ensure a sustainable income for local communities. Each spice is carefully packed in tins or glass jars – with no plastic. The metal tins preserve the flavours and aroma of your spice, by protecting them from sunlight. So the ingredients stay at their best for longer.
