Meet the maker: Babbi

Babbi began in 1952, when Attilio Babbi started making wafer cones for gelato makers in Cesena, a town in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. Keen to keep his business busy through the winter, Attilio turned his attention to chocolate and confectionery. In 1958, his now-famous Viennesi and Waferini were born: delicate, crisp wafers layered with rich creams and coated in chocolate.

More than 70 years later, Babbi is still a family business, with the fourth generation carrying on Attilio's work. We love Babbi for its wonderful family story, its devotion to Italian confectionery and the care that goes into every crisp, chocolate-covered bite. When we visited to watch production, we were wowed by the quality of ingredients at every stage in the process
