Description

These little cheese-flavoured biscuits come from a biscuit maker in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, the town that gave the sablé its name. La Sablésienne bakes them the way they always have. What you get is a crisp, buttery shortbread with real Comté AOP running through it, and toasted sesame scattered on top. The cheese gives a savoury, slightly fruity edge. The sesame adds that warm, nutty crunch.

  • Nearly 12% Comté AOP in every batch
  • Crisp, pure-butter shortbread base
  • Toasted sesame scattered across the top
  • Made in Sablé-sur-Sarthe since 1962
  • No additives, artificial colours or preservatives

Good with a glass of white wine before dinner, or alongside a cheese board when you want something with a bit more bite than plain crackers.

Meet the maker: La Sablesienne

La Sablésienne has been making traditional French butter biscuits since 1962, but its story stretches back much further. The famous sablé biscuit first appeared in 1670, when it was served at the French royal court. In 2003, Amélie Loret Scherrer, the daughter of a biscuit maker and great-granddaughter of a pastry chef, took over the business in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, western France.

Today, her team continues to make crisp, golden biscuits with fresh butter, regional ingredients and traditional methods, baking them on metal trays and gathering them by hand. We love La Sablésienne for its wonderful sense of history, its devotion to French baking traditions and the care that goes into every biscuit.
