Meet the maker: Messermeister

Messermeister means 'knife master' in German, a fitting name for a family business with a passion for exceptional kitchen knives. Founded in California in 1981 by Bernd and Debra Dressler, the company combines traditional German knife-making skills with clever innovations inspired by professional chefs. Today, their daughters Chelcea and Kirsten run the business, continuing the family's love of beautifully made, hard-working knives.

Some of Messermeister's finest knives are handcrafted in Solingen, Germany's famous 'City of Blades', using traditional hot-drop hammer forging. But it's the thoughtful details that make them stand out. In 1992, Messermeister introduced its clever demi-bolster design, allowing the entire blade to be sharpened from heel to tip. It's this combination of centuries-old craftsmanship and practical kitchen know-how that makes Messermeister a favourite among serious cooks.
