Meet the maker: Mill & Mortar

Mill & Mortar began in Denmark in 2008, when founder Iben Büchert swapped a career in business consulting for a lifelong love of food. Her inspiration came from a disappointing sprig of flavourless chervil at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Surely, she thought, spices and herbs could be better than this? So she travelled the world, meeting small growers and discovering how careful farming and drying can preserve extraordinary aromas and flavours.

Today, Mill & Mortar works with producers from Sri Lanka to Spain, sourcing organic, traceable spices and creating inventive blends. We love Mill & Mortar for Iben's infectious curiosity, her close relationships with growers and her belief that spices deserve the same attention as fine wine. A brand that makes every pinch count.
